On the fixed day people come to the polling booth to cast their votes for the candidates. There is a great hustle and bustle there. Polling is held in a room or under the strict supervision of the officer-in-charge. There is an entrance and an exit for the voters. Every voter is given a ballot paper. The voter puts a cross against the name of the persons or the symbol of the party in whose favour he or she wants to cast vote. The paper is then folded and put into the sealed ballot box.

During the polling hours, the members of the different parties are seen busily engaged in bringing voters in taxis, cars. three-wheelers and Tonga's. They canvass and persuade them to cast votes in favour of their candidates. There is a long line of voters in front of the polling room. In the afternoon there is an interval after which polling starts again. Everybody is now anxious to cast vote before the time fixed for it. So there is great rush at the booth.

In the evening, the sealed boxes are taken to the place of counting. The candidate with the majority of votes is declared elected. He is garlanded and taken• in procession through main bazaars, amidst great rejoicings.

Some of them feel a dryness in their throats and feverishly call for water to drink. The smiling ones at once take to writing out the answers that they had so carefully prepared; others also follow their examples thought with less assurance. And very soon and for a long time nothing is heard but the measured trade of the invigilator walking up and down the rows of seats.

This continues for an hour or so, then the atmosphere somewhere relaxes. One calls for a glass of water, and the waterman has to be busy for a time. Sometimes there is a commotion in the hall when a student is caught red-handed with a piece of paper which he had kept concealed with him. As the three hours draw to a close, there is a certain amount of excitement. Some made over the papers earlier and walk with the consciousness of day's burden lifted. Many have finished their work and are busied with a hurried revision.

There are some other who have still some questions to answer. From time to time invigilators draw out the warning of the passing time and then the final bell goes and the answers papers are surrendered, snatched away and soon all candidates are leaving the hall, laughing or chatting. The distance between two sets of wickets is 22 yards. The bowlers take their turns after every six balls. In this game. much depends upon the quality of bowling. Good fielding is also necessary for victory. Before the game starts, there is the toss. It is the whim of the toss winning captain to first go for batting or fielding. The fielding party puts three fieldsmen on the one side, six on the off side, while one is posted for guarding the wicket and one for the bowling. The game is generally played for six hours a day. The umpire is the final judge. He is the man who declares the players out whether they are run out, bowled out, caught out, stumped out or leg-before-wicket.

The match which I witnessed was really very interesting. 'There was huge gathering at Qadaffi Satdium Lahore. Pakistan's leading cricketers were playing in the match. I saw the fine game of Saeed Anwar. He hit many boundaries, while Amir Sohail was very careful not to make a single stroke. But soon Saeed Anwar was out. Then he was replaced by Shahid Afridi. He made 50 runs in 76 minutes whole Amir made 66 runs in 70 minutes. Soon there was break for lunch. The Pakistani team made 219 runs for three wickets before lunch.

Then the West Indies players started batting after lunch. B. Lara played very fast and he hit to sixers. Soon he was out. Then R3ger came and hit three sixers. There was a tremendous cheer from the spectators. There was great excitement among the spectators as well as players. Everyone was in high spirits. Roger Binny played lipto the end and he scored over a century. Then the umpire gave a long whistle and the match ended for the day.

The spectators dispersed. Some of the cricket fans were patting Roger Binny for his brilliant performance. Soon the crowd fizzled out and I came to my house. It was a thrilling match for me.

I take a lot of interest in the hockey matches which are played in Lahore. Last Saturday I witnessed a hockey match which was played on our college ground between our college team and the team of Science College Lahore. Both the teams were evenly attached. Hundreds of students had come to see the match between the two college schools teams.

At exact 3.30 p.m. the players of both the teams entered the playground along with the referee. Mr. Imran of the Science was the referee. He is well known for the impartial decisions. The teams took their positions and when the referee blew the whistle the game started. The eyes of all the spectators were following the actions and moves of the players. The ball was rolling very swiftly between the players of the two teams.

Although in the beginning, the game was not very fast yet by and by it picked up speed. The players of both the teams were quite healthy and active. The players of Science College were wearing white and blue uniforms. The color of the uniforms worn by our college team was blue and white.

After nearly fifteen minutes the game became very fast. Both the teams were now becoming more and more aggressive in their moves. They were trying their best to score a goal. The Science college team was dominating the field for a long time but they were unable to score a goal. The defenders of our team were very strong. They did not allow the opposite team to score a goal so easily.

Just before the interval Saeed. the captain of the Science College able to score a goal in a quick and sudden move. The boys of our college team did not lose their heart. They played courageously and patiently. But nothing could be done before the half time.

After the interval again the game started quite briskly. The spectators were really enjoying the game very much. Now our school team was donating the ground. Soon our team scored two goals against their opponents within ten minutes of the re-start of the game. The students of our college were happy. They cheered our boys to encourage them.

The players of the Science college fought back and played very good game in a stylish manner. But they were unable to score any further goal till the end inspite of their best efforts. The spectators praised the good game played by both the teams. At last the game came to an end. Our College team won by two goals to one. The Principal of our College congratulated the players of our team for their fine team work.

'The match started at 5 P.M. sharp. The G.C. team won the toss and chose the favourable side. Soon the referee blow the whistle and the match started. They were hopeful of scoring the goal. In the first few minutes the G.C. team dominated. They panetrated into the defences of their rival team but could not score any goal. Anyhow. their splendid performance puzzled the F.C. College team and the latter resorted to rough game. i.e. kicking ball at random. But the captain did not lose heart and encouraged his team with the result that the team was re-invigorated. The F.C. college team soon recovered their lost position and in the heat of the moment scored a goal. There was thunderous applause when the goal was scored.

The whole team was cheered by their supporters. But at the same time, the right half of G.C. team was badly injured and the right inner had to play the double role throughout the whole game. Soon the referee blew a long whistle and first half was called off.

Then the players took some rest and refreshment. There was a loud noise in the play ground as the supporters of both the teams rushed to their receptive sides in order to cheer them and encourage them.
Again the referee whistled and the match started. Now, the G.C. team girded up its loins and played with caution. The goalkeeper of G.C. team also became very alert. In the first few moments the F.0 team put pressure on the G.C. team: their left half made three hits one after another in the goal of G.C. but the goalkeeper of G.C. team showed his extraordinary skill by kicking the ball back.

Now, the game was passing through a critical stage. Each side was trying its best to score a goal but soon the time was over and it synchronizes with the scoring of a goal by F.C. team to G.C. team. This was a surprising feat which created a great sensation. The winning team received deafening cheers from its supporters while the other spectators admired the courage, and sportsman-like behaviour shown by both the teams. It was really an exciting match and the spectators appeared to have enjoyed it very much.

Thousands of athletes from all countries of the world participate in these games which are held in high prestige. These games are the symbol of international friendship and brotherhood. The Olympic symbol compresses of five rings of circles linked together to represent the sporting friendship of all Asia, Africa. Australia and America. Each ring is of different colour i.e. blue.

The Olympic Flag has interlocking rings on plain white background. The Olympic flame symbolises the continuity between the ancient and modern Games. The torched used to kindle the flame is first lit by the sun's rays at Olympia in Greece and then carried to the site of the games by relays of runners. There it is kept burning till the last day of the games.

Every athlete of the host country recites the oath that he will take part in the Olympic Games respecting and abiding by the rules which govern them. The Olympic heroes received a crown of olive branches in the ancient times. But in modern Olympic games the winners are given medals and certificates. The athlete standing first gets a gold medal. a silver medal is given to the second and a bronze medal is awarded to the players standing third. At present there are 21 sports which are played at the Olympic games.
