Essay On My Favorite Place College Essay

Essay On My Favorite Place. The cat stretched a lazy smile baring his feline fangs and extending his needle-point claws. And oh what a lazy afternoon it had been. Though the heat of the day still lingered the sun sought distant horizons on which to cast itself upon another day. The fragrance of freshly cut grass lingered on the warm evening breeze

while dragonflies, as if controlled by a child’s hand held remote, snared the victims’ of their early evening meal. I had taken my cue from the cat, Streak, who seemed to be able to nap forever. I, on the other hand, was forever trying to nap, but managed on occasion to inspire a siesta.

Originally an orphan, Streak had been abandoned in the remote corner of a convenience store parking lot. Fate intervened; Streak was recued, and is now a permanent member of our endearing family.  I stretched and yawned, orienting myself as my attention was drawn to the ping of glassware echoing from the kitchen. Earlier my wife, and our daughter of four, had treated me to tasty morsels of fruit and cheese: a perfect Saturday noontime meal. I would have been satisfied with stacks of sugar and piles of preservatives, said to be two of America’s favorite food groups, but alas, I am too well taken care of. Soon I would have to get busy, for dinnertime was rapidly approaching and I had officially been elected “master of the grill”.

I looked forward to searing steaks over an open flame though it’s not quite the same as the thrill-of-the-kill, that primal instinct to fend for one’s meal. Fending for the almighty dollar and paying tribute to the local neighborhood meat market is about as close to the ancestral slaying as I care to get. If I’m going to have to do any cutting let it be the cellophane wrapper of a pre-packaged New York strip, baked potato optional. With the steaks on a plate I stood before the grill’s smoky flame and was struck with an epiphany of almost surreal understanding.

There I was, at that exact moment, doing something I truly enjoyed for those who I cared for most: that my idea of goodness, greatness, or best was ultimately no more than a product of my own interpretation, my own private concept.I remember a time when things could get no better than a warm sunny day or a blue sky afternoon. That changed when I discovered girls. Then came cars – cars and girls. Could it get any better than that? We grow. We develop. Our priorities change with time. Things of importance eventually become the relics of our own passed memories, laid by the wayside of our ever changing lives. Eventually, though, we arrive at a point where all of ourdreams, desires, and ambitions come together.

Sometimes this happens slowly. Other times it’s as if the proverbial light bulb has been lit over our head.  Since the beginning of creation we have been on a path which inevitably arrives at that moment in time when we say to ourselves: “Here I am”. For me, surrounded by life, laughter, and the people I love most: who in return love me too: I can honestly say I have arrived – at my favorite place.
Essay On Science A Blessing Or A Curse And Science In Daily Life Essay

The modern age is the age of science. The influence of science can be seen in every walk of life. Science has provided us with many wonders. If our ancestors happen to visit the modern world they will not able to recognise it. The world today is completely changed. Its complexion and has especially changed during the last three hundred years or so. In a way the world has become a fairy-land as compared with the ancient times.

The Contribution of science is seen in our daily life. It has increased the happiness and comforts of human beings greatly. It has our domestic life very easy. Now the housewife does not have to work very hard. With the help of the latest cooking devices meals can be cooked quickly. Food can also be preserved for a long time in the refrigerator. The clothes can be washed in the washing machines. Thus a housewife can enjoy more leisure and can save a lot of her time.

Science has also given us fans and air conditioners. With the help of these we can save ourselves from the scorching heat of the sun in summer and keep the rooms warm with the help of room heaters in the winter. Thus our houses are lighted, cooled and heated with the latest scientific gadgets. Electricity is really a great wonder of science. All types of machinery can be lifted and trains can be run with electricity.

Science has also made travel very comfortable. There are so many modes of travel available to us. We can travel by railway trains, motor cars. buses or steamers. Aeroplanes have brought the different countries quite close to each other. With in a few hours we can travel thousands of mile and reach different corners of the world. Thus all the nations of the world have become one family. The world has really become much smaller. The bicycles, motor cycles, scooters, shops and the jumbo jets of the twentieth century are the beautiful gifts of science.

Science has also revolutionised the methods of communications. We can talk with our friends and relatives thousands of miles away from us with the help of modern scientific devices like telephone, wireless telegraphy. and internet. We can also send message to different parts of our country and even to all corriers'of the world within a few hours. Through radio broadcasts messages can be conveyed to all parts of the world. On the television we can not only hear the voices but can also see what is being telecast. Broadcasts made from England and America can be heard all over the world.

Science has also helped mankind to fight against dangerous diseases. It has lessened the sufferings and miseries of man. Many diseasees which were incurable in the past can be cured now. It has also worked wonders in the field of surgery. Operations can be out even on delicate parts of the body like brain and heart. Even transplantation of hearts and kidneys has become possible. With the help of X-rays hidden disease in the body of man can be diagnosed easily. It is a fact that science has give eye the blind. The lame has been provided with legs. Science has thus given a new lease of life to the diseased and the injured.
Science has also reduced the burden of the workers. The arduous and the difficult jobs can be done by machines. It has also taken over the dirtiest jobs from man. With the help of machines and instruments huge weights can be lifted and goods produced on a very large scale. It has also provided many sources of entertainment to man like cinema, radio. television, books, etc.

Science has helped in increasing the agricultural production through scientific methods of farming like better seeds, fertilizers. better implements. etc. It is with the help of science that man has reached the moon and now he is probing other planets like Mars and Venus.

But this is only one side of the picture. If in certain respects it has proved a blessing it has also acted as a curse in certain fields. It has produced highly destructive weapons like atom bombs and hydrogen bombs which can destroy the world in no time. During the second world war laces of people were killed in Hiroshima and Nagassaki when U.S.A. dropped atom bombs on them in 1945.
Science has produced many deadlier weapons and made wars very horrible. If a Third World War takes place in the near future, it might destroy all life on the earth as it will be a nuclear war. Man was never so insecure as he is today.

But in reality there is nothing wrong with science. It is upto the man to decide whether he wants to use it for peaceful purses or for destructive purposes. Science is such a knowledge which can be turned both into a blessing and curse. But man should always use science for the promotion of peace and happiness-of mankind. It should never be used for war or destructive purposes.
Essay On Science And War And Advantages Of Technology Essay

Whether man is warlike by nature or not is doubtful. But people like Hitler may think that war is the natural manifestation of the great nations. But wars have been there right from the beginning of the life on earth. The desire to dominate and the ambition to enslave others had been the motive-forced behind war. As these are the psychological weakness of man so man has always been trying to make himself stronger than any other person. That is why science has been harnessed for waging war.

Science has made war more horrible and destructive. The invention of the nuclear weapons and bombs spell doom for the earthly people. It has generally been said that if there is world war perhaps the whole of the living population of earth will come to an end. Once the great scientist. Einstein was asked as to how the world war third would be fought. He replied that 'I don't know about the. Third world war. if fourth world war is fought it will be with the help of stones-. In other words he meant to say that after the third world war the world will reel back to the primitive age.

Different scientists have given different explanations for the complete destruction on earth after the nuclear war. Some say that the heat produced by Megaton and Cobalt bombs will be so much that it is impossible for human beings to live: everything will be reduced to dust. Some others say that the explosion of the nuclear devices will consume so much of oxygen that it will be impossible for the people to breathe. Still others say that the earth may crack and poisonous gases may start coming out of the earth. Many others think that the snow on the mountains would melt and the whole of the other way the world xx ill come to an end after a nuclear war.

Science has given the instruments of death that give much power to man. Green-war-fare is equally dangerous. It will make the people to suffer from fatal diseases. Some of the poisonous gases are also made to pollute the atmosphere. Apart from this, various other weapons are used for killing soldiers and been civilians of the other nations.

Despite this fact it is believed that wars of today have not taken so heavy to a toll of the people as it used to take in the wars of the ancient times. They say that a number of the wounded soldiers are saved and the people do not die of diseases as they used to die during wars in ancient times. Plague and other serious diseases used to be the aftermath of those wars. Now-a-days medical facilities and other types of protections provided by science have made it possible for the human beings to save themselves from the Scourge of war. Similarly scientific invention like satellites, radars and many other electric devices are employed to blunt the enemy attacks. So if we take up an overall view of the effect of science upon war it will not be so horrifying as it seems to be.

In fact science has been misused by the politicians and not by the scientists. Scientists are genius and not evil spirits. They never want any destruction. Einstein, for example, was a great lover of peace and non-violence. It is the politicians who misuse their research.. Some may say that if scientists are not disposed' to do harm why they should invent dangerous weapons.Scientific activity is not something that can be directed in a definite direction. It is purely unguided and somewhat natural. In other words science, it cannot be said, has done harm to humanity by giving dangerous weapons. Till the human beings change their outlook it is not possible for them to banish war from the world.
Essay On Man And Machine And Work By Hands Or By Machine Essay

This is the age of machines. Every activity of man has become mechanised. The daily routine of life is not only dependent upon machines but it is also guided by the machines. Machines help us to work, to increase production, to transport the goods from place to place, to do odd jobs for us and also make us to live a better and comfortable life. The work has become easier and it is done with a greater speed and with better precision. Machines help us to overcome a number of hindrances and a number of problems which may not be over come by us so easily.

With the help of machines mountains are blown up and roads are laid. With their help rivers are tamed, planets are observed, educational-aids are employed. In other words machines have become the most important part of our daily life. That is why relation of man and machine has become complementary but sometimes contradictory. One of the most important achievements of machines is that goods have been standardised. The quality of the goods can never fall and it is possible to produce them in large quantities.

As a result of it artisans and craftsman have almost. been replaced by machines. It seems that the artistic skill of man is fact fading even out of the memory. The good, can be manufactured according to certain specifications and as a result of it they can be sold with much ease and confidence. This has given rise to competition between man and machine and it seems that sometimes that competition in quite unhealthy. Mass-scale production of the goods has resulted in the unemployment of a large number of artisans. It is also responsible of competitive spirit which in its turn has given rise to many other problems and malpractice. It is because of mass production that a huge amount of money is spent on publicity and the people are cheated of their hard earned money. Some of the countries because of over-production indulge in certain malpractices, like dumping of the goods, which are very dangerous of the economy of a country. Mass-scale production many times leads to wastage of the national resources.

Machines have in an unknown manner developed mechanical attitude in the case of man. Man looks at things as objects to be experimented upon and he does not have that sense of appreciation which he used to have in the earlier times. The appreciation of beauty is not so spontaneous' as it used to be. Moreover machines have made man, time-conscious and he does not want to waste even a single minute. This attitude has resulted in strain upon his mind. He is all the time worried about the proper utilisation of time. He wants that time should be the deciding factor in his life. This mechanical attitude is not good for the over-all development of man.

One of the worst features of this mechanical age is that man is slowly and slowly replaced by machines. It is feared that man will completely be subordinated to machines. No denying the fact that large scale unemployment is because of machines. Machines can do the work of a large number of the manual workers that is why a number of people are rendered jobless.

Total dependence upon machines is definitely harmful. It is not good to allow the machines to dominate man's life. If man is to work with the help of machines and is to depend totally upon machines it will not be possible for man to remain his normal self Machines when they become masters crush the very spirit of man and ring an end to all good qualities of man as a creature of God. Man has moral sense which animals don't have and machine makes man indifferent to all the higher things of life we become earthly and earthy.

Essay On Television Advantages And Disadvantages

Essay On Television Advantages And Disadvantages

Television is one of the most important miracles of science. It has brought about a revolution in the field of entertainment. education and communication. Indeed mankind should be grateful to its inventor J.L. Baird who has brought the cinema and stage into the houses of the masses. One can now watch moving, talking and living pictures on the screen while sitting in one's home.

Thus, while sitting in our homes, we can watch all kinds of programmes which are televised. Many educative and informative programmes can also be shown on the television which are a great help to the students and the masses. Television is especially very valuable for an under-developed country like Pakistan where a great majority of the people are illiterate and live in the villages. The people can be imparted much information and education through the television programmes.

Now one can enjoy the films while sitting at one's own house. among the members of the family. Many dramas can also be shown on the television. Through talks, delivered by the eminent scholars the people can be informed about the latest happenings and the current problems. The politicians, scientists, social workers and other eminent persons can also talk to the people directly through the medium of television. Thus the benefits of television are numerous. People can hear the point of view of all eminent persons, which can greatly help them in forming their opinions.

Television can also help in removing the social and political evils from the society. It can highlight the evils of dowry. drinking. gambling, etc. and help in their removal. Similarly the government programmes like family planning afforestation, adult education and cleanliness of the cities can also be propagated through the medium of television very successfully.

During the time of election the results of the successful candidates can also be announced through the television. The V.I.P.s like the President, the Prime Minister, etc. can also keep a direct contact with the people by addressing them on television.

Of course. with its advantages the television also has certain disadvantages. If a person spends too much time in watching television every day, he will become lazy and shirk work. He would like to sit idle and waste his time. If one sees pictures from a close distance on the television set, it affects the eye-sight. It is thus very risky for the small children who always sit very close to the television set. The students also get the bad habit of seeing films on the television. During the television time the students do not pay any attention to their studies which will affect their educational career. The use of television set also increases the electricity bill greatly.

Inspite • of all these disadvantages, the advantages are definitely more. In the field of education and entertainment its vast importance cannot be denied.
Essay On The Wonder Of Science And Atomic Energy Essay

Twentieth century is the age of science. Science has progressed by leaps and bounds. It has brought about many revolutions in the life of a man. Rather, science has changed the very life and living of a man. It has transformed the very face of the earth. Science has bestowed upon humanity great and far-reaching inventions and discoveries. Nay, it has blessed mankind with such instruments and contrivances as have earned the name of wonderful phenomenon for science.

The wonders of science are too many to be enumerated hut still some wonders need mentioning. The entire growth and advancement of science is really a vast subject. But some of the wonders which science has provided to the human race are decidedly remarkable.

In the sphere of health and hygiene. science has caused wonder. Penicillin. streptomycin and other drugs have proved to be miraculous cures. Terrible and chronic diseases have been overcome by science. It has conquered death and disease. It has prolonged the life span of man: plastic surgery can transform an ugly woman into a beauty queen. X-rays can detect the defects in the bodies of living beings.

In the field of transport and communication, the advancement of science is amazing. The names like electric trains. aeroplanes and ships are well known to a layman. The gadgets which go by the name of rockets and Sputniks, missiles and jets, have shortened the world because of their tramendous speed. In one day, we can visit many cities of the world. Distance and time have ceased to hold any barrier in this age of science and technology.

Atomic energy is one of the most wonderful blessings of science. This energy not only promises to satisfy the immense. needs of this energy-hunger civilisation but can work miracles because it is man) times more powerful than electricity. Atomic energy can run mills, factories and great industrial and technological establishments and atomic explosions can also be used for levelling mountains and digging canals.
Science has glorified machines. It has increased the efficiency, though this has led to some unemployment and insanitary conditions. The use of tractor, agricultural instruments chemical and insecticides have increased the average output. By applying scientific methods in agriculture, the yield of farms has multiplied.

On the whole, the wonders of science are countless. Science has taught us to swim like fish in water and to fly like birds in air. It has given man comforts and facilities like telephone, television, fans, air-conditioned buildings. In the field of science the difference between summer and winter is negligible. Science can be used to eliminate poverty, to clean slums, to increase production in field as well as factories and for other constructive purposes. All these are, as a matter of fact, the wonder of science.
